Fjordhus Reivers 3

Peebles Ladies 3

AFTER last week's victory over the Premier League leaders Linlithgow the Peebles Ladies travelled to Tweedbank to take on the reigning champions Fjordhus Reivers in what promised to be a tasty Borders derby.

With it being half term Peebles were slightly depleted in numbers but were still determined and confident going into the game.

It was a bitterly cold, wet and windy afternoon and the game started at high tempo.

An unfortunate and very unlucky own goal gave Reivers the upper hand and soon after they home side went 2-0 ahead.

But Peebles kept their heads up and really dug deep to start a fight back.

Peebles got a goal back when a perfectly timed and weighted pass through the middle and into the circle by Sarah Glendinning found Karis Sharp who slotted the ball past the Reivers keeper.

This lifted the visitors and gave them the belief they needed.

Various chances were created with Heather Horsburgh marginally missing as she slotted the ball home wide of the post.

Peebles went into half time 2-1 down but spirits were high.

The second half started much the same as the first - high tempo and end to end action with both sides creating chances.

Reivers were awarded a penalty corner which was converted to take the score to 3-1.

Again the pure fight, heart, determination and belief that was shown by Peebles was quite simply phenomenal.

Peebles were also awarded a penalty corner that was struck sweetly by Megan Maciver and Sarah Glendinning was on the post to deflect it into the goal.

Peebles pressed and pressed and finally got the equaliser when a quick free hit was taken to catch the Reivers defence on the back foot.

Youngster Kazya Stevens drove into the Reivers circle and showed great composure to slot the ball home to make the score 3-3.

Peebles defence were put under immense pressure near the end of the game but the defence of Leanne McAllister, Megan Maciver and Shirley Gray stayed strong and kept the home team at bay.

A thoroughly deserved draw and a magnificent team effort by every single player.

Thanks to Sandy Barrett for umpiring.

Huge thanks to the travelling supporters too.

Peebles Ladies don't have a game this week but they are back in action on Saturday, February 25 to take on Livingston at home with a 3.15 pass back.

As always we welcome your support.
