Fjordhus Reivers 2s 3

Peebles 3

FJORHUS Reivers 2s welcomed an inform Peebles side to Tweedbank on Saturday, and following a tightly contested draw in the corresponding fixture in the first half of the season, the home side knew they needed to be at their best from the start.

The dreadful weather conditions weren't conducive to flowing hockey, however the Reivers made light of the freezing temperatures and driving rain, to get quickly into their stride.

Following a slick move and a drive into the D, Sara Robson's shot was blocked by the keeper, however the rebound was turned home by a Peebles player for the first goal.

The Reivers kept up the tempo, and although Peebles looked a useful outfit, more pressure forced a penalty corner and from a well worked training ground move Janet Jack slotted home the second to make it 2-0 to the Fjordhus ladies.

A momentary lapse in concentration by the Reivers let Peebles back into the game, when they scored a runaway goal, and the game went into half time as 2-1 to the Reivers.

After the half, the Reivers continued to press the Peebles goal and although they managed to make it 3-1 when Jackie Wilson punched home from another cleverly worked penalty corner, there was always a feeling that the visitors weren't yet out if the game.

This proved to be the case when a top D strike from a penalty corner for the visitors was driven home, to make it 3-2.

Thereafter, the Reivers were put under pressure by the visitors, pushing for the equaliser, and unfortunately also by some inconsistent umpiring, which started to affect the home team.

Once again a breakout from deep by Peebles, stretched the home defence and the ball was scrambled home to make the score 3-3.

The Reivers then set siege to the Peebles goal, however with numbers behind the ball, it was difficult to find an opening to push for the winner.

As the whistle was blown, it was evident from the faces of the home side, that this was a case where points had been dropped, in their quest to chase down the league leaders.
