THE latest police report for the Peebles area has shown that 13 fixed penalty tickets for illegal parking were issued between Wednesday, January 11 and Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

The majority of recipients were local to the area.

On January 11, 12 and 16, speeding vehicles were reported in the Cavalry Park, Kingsmeadows and High Street areas of Peebles.

On all three occasions there were no details of the offending vehicles. Officers attended these incidences but did not detect any offences.

In January, police reported two incidents of drug use.

On Wednesday, January 18, a 29-year-old male driver was stopped on the Edinburgh Road for minor traffic offences.

This subsequently led to the find of cannabis within the vehicle. The driver has been charged with possession.

On Thursday, January 19, a property in Cademuir Drive was searched under a warrant and a large quantity of drugs were found to the possible value of £7,000. Police enquiries are continuing.

There have been two incidents involving youths and alcohol.

On Monday, January 27 at 8pm, officers seized a quantity of alcohol from youths at Walkershaugh in Peebles.

Later that evening, at 10.45pm, police seized more alcohol from youths in the South Park woods.

During this period, there have been four reports of Vandalism in the area.

Between January 13 and 14, damage was caused to a bench and a door at a property in Victoria Park Drive.

On Wednesday, January 18, a fence was spray painted in Jubilee Park overnight.

On Friday, January 20, at approximately 11pm, a can of cider was thrown at a window in March Street causing it to smash.

On Saturday, February 4, a brick was used to smash a van window whilst parked in Connor Street overnight.

There have also been a number of housebreakings in the Peebles in recent weeks.

On January 24 and 25, two properties in Glen Crescent and one in Bonnington Road were broken into. The property stolen included a panel van, a motorcycle and an Audi motorcar.

The van was later found burnt out at Leadburn and the Audi in Penicuik.

Eddleston was also hit with three housebreakings, two on the same evening as Peebles and one several days later. The police report states that the last one took place at teatime.

The police report also states: "This series of crimes are concerning but CID are following positive lines of enquiry.

"Householders are asked to review the security of their properties and to ensure that all doors are locked whenever possible."
