COUNCIL bosses have defended their decision to cancel all school busses on the eve of Storm Doris - despite the predicted snow never arriving.
Parents were today left with deciding whether to take their children to the classrooms by car or keeping them off.
And many took to the local authority’s social media pages to vent their anger.
But council chiefs maintain it was better to be safe than sorry, when preparing for the forecasted snow.
Yesterday evening, the local authority announced today’s school transport would be cancelled, when an Amber weather warning for snow was put in place by the Met Office.
A spokesperson told us: “This was the worst for weather forecast we have received since 2010, so making a decision to cancel school transport was the right thing to do.”
Around 10 to 15cm was expected to fall, but only a minimal amount, with no disruption to travel around the region, except for standing water due to the heavy rain.
SBC also cancelled its own full council meeting prematurely. That meeting, which was also due to take place today, will now take place next Thursday instead (March 2).
