MYSTERY has surrounded why a car was left abandoned at a popular Peebles vantage point over the weekend.

A damaged Ford Fiesta car was found by a resident at the Sware Car Park, which overlooks the Manor Valley on Monday morning.

The concerned resident alerted the Peeblesshire News, who went along to investigate.

We found the car severely damaged, with all windows gone, excluding the windscreen, with the bonnet open and the drivers door ajar.

Inside the vehicle, each seat was covered with hundreds of pieces of shattered glass, with empty cigarette packets and rusty metal poles strewn across seats.

There was no trace of any registration plates at the front and rear of the vehicle, giving officers the task of having to track down its rightful owner.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland told us: "Police in the Scottish Borders received reports of a damaged Ford Fiesta at Sware Car Park in the Edderston Cottages area of Peebles on Monday, February 27.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing to trace the owner and establish the full circumstances surrounding this. Anyone with information which may be able to help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
