PEEBLES artist Moy Mackay is auctioning the painting she produced during a TV competition to help raise money for refugees.

Back in November, she appeared on SkyArts’ Landscape Artist of the Year, creating the Palladian Bridge, Stowe, and was shortlisted to the final three in her heat.

Now she is selling it to raise money for the Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) to help feed refugees across northern France and beyond.
Moy said: “Being part of SkyArts Landscape Artist of the Year was an amazing experience.

“What prompted me to apply in the first place was a desire to have a non traditional paint medium recognised as a credible art form.

“I have painted since a child and how I create my ‘felted paintings’ is in reality not much different than how I would approach a painting. I am simply replacing the paint medium with coloured fibres. It was great that this show was open to my medium and seemed to embrace it.

“It was a special day and hence one of my more special creations. For that reason it didn’t really seem right to just sell it. I decided the best thing to do was to auction the piece to raise funds for charity.

“I chose RCK as this is a charity that my family has been involved in over the past year. My mother, sister, sons, partner, niece and friend have all travelled to Calais to volunteer at various times.

“It’s a grass roots charity that is providing much needed nourishment to hundreds of desperate displaced people. I am hoping people will bid generously for such a worthy cause.”

Bidding is currently at £1,450 and online bidding ends at 8pm on March 20. To submit an offer, visit: http://www.jumblebee.co.uk
