Peebles Ladies 6

Cala 3s 1

PEEBLES Ladies made for a draw earlier in the season by beating a young, quick and skilful Cala 3s side on Saturday.

It was a disappointing 1-1 draw the last time the two teams met back in November.

Compared to previous weeks it was a very calm and warm afternoon at Peebles High School so a last minute removal of base-layers was required.

The game started at high tempo which was the home side's intention and it was pretty much rapid end to end action for the first 15 minutes of the game.

The Pees took the lead through a goal from Karis Sharp who found herself one on one with the Cala GK and slotted the ball home.

The second goal came shortly after when Sarah Glendinning drove up the field from the half way line to feed the ball into the circle to Peebles striker Kazya Stevens, who calmly fired the ball past the visiting goalie.

Peebles were on a roll now and the third goal was a strike by Karis Sharp which was saved before Kazya Stevens collected the rebound.

The Cala keeper produced another great save but quick reaction skills and great positioning saw Heather Horsburgh rewarded with a goal when she drilled the ball into the back of the goal.

A fourth goal just before half time was scored when the visiting keeper was favourite to get to the ball first but a blunder saw her miss kick and the oncoming Karis Sharp pounced on the mistake to tap the ball over the line.

The home team were on fire but were not getting too ahead of themselves as they knew it was only a week ago against Kelso they went into half time with a healthy lead but a poor second half resulted in them coming away with a draw.

The second half started much the same as the first with every single player working extremely hard and working together.

Youngsters Helena Tipper and Elizabeth Nguyen showed they are getting stronger and growing in confidence with each game.

The visitors created a few chances but the defence of Leanne McAllister, Narelle Allan and Joyce Mathews kept them at bay.

Tara Spence in goals for Peebles didn't have too much to do but was solid as usual.

Peebles extended their lead when Karis Sharp was one on one with the keeper again and managed to slip the ball past her.

Cala got a goal back from a penalty corner where a top of the circle strike was deflected into the roof of the net.

Peebles scored their sixth a short time later when young Helena Tipper drove up the right wing passing to fellow youngster Kazya Stevens on the baseline, who fired in a perfect cross for Sarah Glendinning to run onto to touch the ball past the keeper.

A fantastic result for the ladies who have now manage to secure fourth spot which is a magnificent achievement for their first season back in the Premier League.

Thanks to Sandy for umpiring and to all who came along to support the ladies.

Peebles Ladies are at home tomorrow for their last home game of the season to take on Edinburgh Uni 5s with a 3pm pass back.
