A WEST LINTON man is to stand as an Independent candidate in the local elections.

Civil engineer Tommy Davidson (pictured), 58, made the announcement this week ahead of the upcoming elections on Thursday, May 4 and is seeking views of locals across Peeblesshire.

Born in the current Tweeddale West, Tommy is proud to be part of the community. He has played a part in shaping community life from positions on community councils and gala day committees to school PTA’s.

Tommy believes in being a strong voice for his family and friends in the community and is keen to continue this as a Scottish Borders Council Tweeddale West councillor.

Tommy told us: “Having been raised and educated in Peeblesshire I feel I have a reasonable understanding of the needs of our communities and will strive to be a strong, independent voice for the people that live and work in the Tweeddale West area.

“My family, community, education and work experiences have helped develop my knowledge of the area. I will listen to problems and challenges that the electorate may experience over the next five years and then use my knowledge and drive to try and work out how to address these challenges.

“I would be interested in hearing residents’ views or current issues relative to SBC services. What do residents view as the good services and where is there scope for improvement or perhaps new services?”
