THE latest police report for Peebles has shown that five fixed penalty tickets were issued between Thursday, February 9 and Thursday, March 9.

There were three reports on February 13, 23 and March 1 for antisocial behaviour. On February 13, at 10.05pm, a report was received that “boy racers” were within Kingsmeadows car p ark revving their engines. Officers attended the area but no vehicles were seen.

On February 23 at 11.15pm, police received a report of vehicles speeding up and down Peebles High Street. Local officers were unable to attend at the time, but a later search of the area at 11.55pm showed no trace of offending vehicles.

On March 1 at 8pm, a report was made of two people fighting, but they both made off on hearing that the police had been called.

During this month there were no reports of drugs use. Police received two reports of youths and alcohol during last month. 

On February 15 at 12.30am, a report was received regarding youths causing annoyance near to the Cross Road area. They are believed to have been at a house party, and no damage was reported.

Suspects have been identified by police and a further enquiry is ongoing.

On February 24 at 10.05pm, a report was made of a large group of males and females screaming and shouting on School Brae, Peebles. Police attended the scene and the group made off. The area was searched but no youths were traced.

Overnight between February 23 and 24, a report of vandalism was made when a resident’s car wing mirror was smashed in George Street, Peebles. No one was seen.

On February 22 at around 2.45am, a property at Murray Place, Peebles was entered and the culprit disturbed by the occupier, nothing was reported stolen. 

The Police report has also issued a safety reminder about housebreakings in the area. 

It states: “Over the course of January and February, several properties within Eddleston and Peebles have been subject to housebreakings. Culprits have gained entry by smashing rear doors.” 

“On each occasion occupiers were not in at the time, except for one property where the culprits were disturbed. Police suspect that culprits were looking for vehicle keys.

"Members of the public are reminded to lock all doors and remove keys from locks. Car keys should not be kept near front or back doors or viewed from windows.

“A specialised unit within the Borders is currently investigating these crimes. Together with local officers, additional resources from outwith the area have also been brought in along with divisional roads policing to give extra attention, public reassurance and in an effort to detect/prevent further incidents.

"The public are requested to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or vehicle(s), with registration numbers noted. Security advice can be viewed on the Police Scotland website.”
