CHANGES to Innerleithen's Games Week celebrations have been announced.

During last week's public meeting the St Ronan's Border Games Committee agreed to alter the programme of events during the July celebrations.

And it is hoped the new timetable will make the festival more accessible for more people.

Sunday's Kirkin parade and service have been brought forward by half-an-hour with the popular Band Display also moving forward.

The annual Children's Sports will now take place on the Sunday afternoon.

And the Senior Citizens' Social will be held on the Tuesday.

Games Committee chairman Keith Belleville said: "We have felt for a few years that we needed to make some changes to update the children's events at Games Week.

"The committee undertook a public consultation in the autumn specifically about the children's event and we have used this feedback and other evaluations to plan for some exciting changes to the programme."

"This year's children's sports and treat will take place on Sunday, July 9 from 3pm. This event will include other entertainment for a variety of age groups and we are reviewing the type of races that we organise.

"The main idea behind the changes is to make the events more accessible to more families, but we will review how things go this year and are willing to tweak and adapt things going forward.

"We are very grateful to the bands and the Church who readily agreed to timing changes."

During the meeting the office bearers also presented their annual reports.

The chairman took the opportunity to thank the many sponsors and patrons who support the Games, including Scottish Borders Council and the Ex-Standard Bearers' Association for their ongoing financial support.

Secretary Stewart Wilson recalled a successful year with a fine asset of principals representing the town, while treasurer Norman Scott presented the annual accounts which highlighted the high costs associated with putting on Games Week.

The office bearers were elected for the coming year are - Chairman and President - Keith Belleville, Vice Chairman - Alan Patterson, Secretary - Stewart Wilson, Treasurer - Norman Scott, Ceremonial - John Robertson, Sports Secretary - Lesley Gillon, Bar Convener - Gordon Fairbanks , and Patrons' Secretary - Ted McKie.
