EVERY penny counts for the Guides and Brownies in Eyemouth.

Following eight years of sponsoring the education of Nigerian girl, Rakayah, to the tune of £20 per month the girls have turned their loose change savings to Marie Curie.

Since last summer the Eyemouth Guides and 2nd Eyemouth Brownies have been collecting 1p, 2p and 5p coins.

And they raised a total of £159.42 which was handed over to representatives from the Berwickshire fundraising branch of Marie Curie last week.

Janette McCulloch, who is a Guider, is a volunteer with the Berwickshire fundraising group.

Janette said: "I am extremely proud of what my girls have achieved, especially being able to raise the amount they did for Marie Curie.

"The girls are very proud to have been able to raise a substantial sum towards home nursing care for those nearing the end of their lives."
