PEEBLES golfer Darren Howie secured his third win on the national circuit with a fine victory in the season-opening Scottish Golf Junior Tour at Forrester Park in Fife last weekend.
Howie, who won last year’s Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy as well as the Niagara Cup, leapt to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday, following up his opening 71 with a superb five-under par 67 in his afternoon round.
Despite a two-over 74 third round, Howie held off the challenge from Duff House Royal’s Callum Bruce to finish a shot clear on 212, four-under par, providing a confidence booster for next week’s Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship at Monifieth Links, one of the biggest events on the circuit, where the Peebles youngster will undoubtedly start as one of the favourites in the strong international line-up.
