MORE than 40 volunteers across Peebles have participated in the town's annual spring clean. 

The 'Bin the Litter' event, which is organised by Peebles Community Council, took place on Sunday, April 2.

Several children and members of the Peebles Callants Club were among the 40-strong group to help clean up the town.

The team collected litter from 10am until 1pm, adding to a total of 100 hours spent tidying Peebles from previous events, with the aim to make the town look its best in time for Easter and the busy visitor season.

Anne Snoddy, secretary from Peebles Community Council, told the Peeblesshire News: "The Community Council would like to thank all those who took part, including the members of the Peebles Callants Club.

"A special thank you also goes to the workforce at Eshiels Recycling Centre for their co-operation when the many bags of rubbish were delivered to them by Community Councillors George Ramsay and Allan Mackenzie."

The volunteers covered several areas for this years spring clean, including; Venlaw, Haylodge Park, Neidpath Road, the area round the Crossings, Cavalry Park and Bonnington Road.

Other areas including; Kingsmeadows Road, the South Parks area, Glen Road, the banks of the Tweed, Priorsford Quarry path, and Craigerne Lane were also covered in the cleaning efforts.
