PEEBLESSHIRE MP David Mundell received a bottle Tweeddale whisky on his recent trip to Singapore.

The member for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale was in the country as Secretary of State for Scotland to showcase local brands.

And during the visit, he was handed a bottle of R&B’s oldest brand at the Global Scotland Reception last Thursday.

Mr Mundell was presented with the whisky by Kevin Liu of the Edinburgh-based distillers at the High Commissioner’s residence in Singapore and was delighted to see the area being promoted.

He told the Peeblesshire News: “As the local MP I am always keen to promote the Tweeddale area as a positive place to live, work and do business so I was very pleased to see Tweeddale whisky being brought to a reception in Singapore.

“The fact that a distillers in the capital are promoting this region is a huge benefit to Tweeddale and I had a positive chat with Kevin Liu about their products.

“Tweeddale getting promotion at a Global Scotland Reception is hugely welcome and as a whisky fan myself, I look forward to sampling Tweeddale whisky.

“I’m also delighted to hear that they are hoping to press ahead with plans for a distillery in the region, which although in the early stages have the potential to bring great benefits in terms of jobs and a boost to the Tweeddale economy.

“I hope that the plans continue to progress and with Tweeddale being the oldest brand from R&B it would be more than appropriate for a distillery to be situated in the region.”
