RAMBLERS from the region have embarked on their annual spring weekend walking holiday on Friday, April 28. This year it was to Arran.
The Biggar Ramblers arrived on the lunch time ferry in glorious sunshine, although there was a chilly breeze.
After booking in to their accommodation at Altachorvie, Lamlash, they headed off for their first walk which was from nearby Whiting Bay.
Nineteen members negotiated the picturesque, wooded Glenashdale glen to the spectacular falls which cascade over a vertical wall of rock at the head of the valley. There is an excellent viewpoint here.
The walk was made circular by returning via the ‘Giant’s Grave’ – actually the impressive remains of a 5,000-year-old chambered cairn.
The total distance of just four miles included some steep inclines which provided a fitting warm-up for what was to come during the rest of their stay.
