MEDICAL records of patients in the region have not been compromised following Friday's national cyber attack, NHS Borders has confirmed.

A statement issued on Monday afternoon (May 15) said: "We became aware that NHS Borders had been affected by the national cyber attack on Friday afternoon and immediate action from staff who alerted our IM&T team enabled us to take the necessary steps to isolate the incidences very quickly and prevent further damage taking place.

"Three community sites were affected and our staff have worked tirelessly over the course of the weekend and continue to do so to manage the impact of the incident and to maintain services, and we thank them for that.

"We remain in recovery phase and are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

"We can confirm that patient safety and confidentiality has not been compromised.

"We would like to thank the media for their assistance in publicising our messages over the weekend and the public for their support."

Friday's cyber attack has also affected various organisations in over 150 countries around the world.
