EDDLESTON Children’s Entertainment Committee (ECEC) is holding its fancy dress competition and village parade at 6.30pm tonight (Friday, May 26).

There is no specific fancy dress theme this year. Children should assemble in the school playground at 6.30pm, for judging commencing at 6.45pm.

There are prizes for all age groups. There is also a raffle with some amazing prizes.

After judging, at 7.15pm the children will parade through the village, led by Peebles Pipe Band, concluding back at the school playground.

Due to competing with pre-arranged events, the annual Eddleston v Manor Football Cup match will sadly not be held this year.

On Saturday, May 27, the sports day will commence in Elibank Park with the first race starting at 1pm sharp. Competitors are asked to bring bicycles for the slow cycle race (children and adults).

Ice cream, juices, water and sweets will be on sale at the event. Cakes, tea and coffee are provided by way of a silver collection after the sports for the trophy presentations.

A silver collection will also be taken at the entrance gate to help cover costs. This is a community-wide event and a great tradition in the village.

A spokesperson said: "We would ask you show your support by attending to both enjoy and maintain this tradition. Due to health and safety requirements, we must exclude any horses or mechanical/electrical child’s buggies from the parade.

"Dogs must be kept on a lead, and we ask that any cars parked at either event are left in situ until pedestrians have left the area.

"May we also draw your attention to the burn which runs along the east of Elibank Park. Please remember that children remain the responsibility of their parents at all times."
