THE festivities are set to begin in West Linton as the village launches this year’s Whipman festival.

The traditional junior ride out, which takes place today (Sunday, May 28), will herald the start of the one of the most historic events in the Borders calendar.

Children will leave the Karecole Farm Stables at 10.30am and travel through the village to the stables on Bogsbank Road for a lunch stop at midday.

After the break, the riders will return to the village where the West Linton and District Pipe Band will lead them up the main street to the ford area.
Riders are set to cross the River Lyne at 1.30pm.

Shelia Forsyth, secretary of the Whipman Play Society told the Peeblesshire News: “The annual junior ride out is back in West Linton this weekend and we’d encourage as many people as possible to come out and support these young riders – its a big day for them.”

The Whipman week starts on Friday, June 2 and runs until Saturday, June 10.
