PUPILS from Priorsford Primary School in Peebles have turned into entrepreneurs to hold a farmers market.

Primary 7 youngsters have worked for several weeks to organise the event, with the support of Lesley Mason from the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET).

P7 teacher Katherine Adamson told us: “We have been able to carry out this market for the last five years, and it is always a highlight for the kids in their last year of primary school.

“The pupils did all the organising with some guidance from teachers Mrs Elder and Miss Adamson.

“We allocated four children to be the project co-ordinators for the market; Christina McGorum, Matthew Henderson, Robin Dalgleish and Aiden McGinn.

“These pupils made phone calls to producers, sent out letters and ensured everything ran smoothly – they did a fantastic job.

“It was a great turn out on a very hot day in May.

“The producers made their own money but the school stalls raised £586.56, which we are delighted with. The pupils will decide how they want to spend the money very soon.”

Other P7s had a part to play, from helping local producers to running their own stall to raise money for the school.

The pupils also learned about the importance of shopping locally and eating fresh foods.
