YOUNG Borders snappers are being encouraged to get out and about with their cameras this summer and capture their heritage through photography.

Live Borders Libraries and Archives are celebrating Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology and are launching a competition – Picturing the Past - for those aged 25 years and younger.

By capturing their favourite building, monument or archaeological feature in the Scottish Borders within an image entrants gain the opportunity to have their work featured at an exhibition during the 2017 Borders Heritage Festival in September.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive Live Borders, said: “It is hoped that this competition will inspire the photographers of the future to get out and about this summer and help us to celebrate the history, heritage and archaeology of the Scottish Borders.

“The Scottish Borders is rich in history, heritage and archaeology.

“From ancient monuments to listed buildings, historic battlefields to our myths, stories and legends.

“It is hoped this competition will shine a spotlight on some of the regions greatest assets and icons, as well as our hidden gems.”

The exhibition will include the photographs by the three overall winners and six runners up and will run at the Heritage Hub from Thursday, September 7 as part of the Borders Heritage Festival.

The competition closes on Friday, August 11.

Prizes include a book token, presentation of your image and inclusion in an exhibition for the Borders Heritage Festival, September 2017.

Entrants must be within one of three categories when the competition closes: 11 years and under; 12-17 years; 18-25 years.
