GRAND National winning trainers Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore were in the Selkirk ring on Saturday as the region's most promising young riders competed for glory.

Glorious sunshine made sure the ever popular Common Riding Gymkhana attracted one of its largest crowds and entries in recent memory.

It was the Russell/Scudamore team who were given the arduous duty of deciding the best turned out.

Aileen Firth from the organising committee told the Border Telegraph: "A wonderful day was had by around 65 competitors, and the show field was in perfect condition.

"The only complaint of the day was that the ice cream ran out!

"We were extremely lucky to have Grand National winning trainer Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore judging - they were both fantastic with the children."

The Selkirk Common Riding Gymkhana committee would like to thank Down to Earth, Selkirk, Carrs Billington, Selkirk, Mark and Wendy Gilbert, Glenmayne, Bankend Services, Dodson & Horrell, and Four Seasons Catering as well as all the judges, stewards and helpers.
