A HEALTHY eating enterprise from Peebles has provided timely ingredients to make sure a village youth club survives.

Funding cuts had led to an uncertain future for Walkerburn Youth Club.

But social enterprise You Can Cook has ploughed its annual profits from the past financial year into keeping the facility open.

You Can Cook executive director Bosco Santimano told us: "You Can Cook is a social enterprise and is legally constituted as a community interest company.

"This means in practice is that we have to pour back our profits into the communities we serve in Scotland.

"What better way to do this then by giving a helping hand to a youth club to make sure it continues to operate at least for a couple of years before other financial arrangements can be made.

"Governments and local authorities have neglected this age group for multiple reasons and instead of just complaining and feeling sorry we felt it was best to put our money where our mouth is with this financial support package."

Walkerburn youth worker Heather Lees accepted the rescue funding from You Can Cook on behalf of Walkerburn Youth Club.

The social enterprise has worked with children in Walkerburn in the past.

And they continue to provide free weekly cookery classes with Heather Murray in the village each week - alternating each Thursday evening between the Village Hall and the Rugby Club.
