NHS Borders is beating the set target when it comes to waiting time statistics.

Latest figures from NHS Scotland show that 97.5 per cent of patients in the region’s emergency departments were seen, admitted or discharged within four hours – surpassing the 95 per cent aim.

And Tweeddale MSP Christine Grahame says the numbers are "testament to the hard work" of staff.

She told the Peeblesshire News: "The fact that Scotland has had the best performing emergency departments in the UK for more than two years is testament to the hard work of our NHS and social care workers.

"I hope all politicians will take a moment to recognise this and that some in the Tory party especially will perhaps spend somewhat less time creating hysteria around the challenges facing our NHS.

"It is extremely encouraging that Emergency Departments in NHS Borders’ are frequently meeting the four hour waiting times target, with the latest figures published showing that 97.5 per cent of patients are being seen within four hours.

"We will always value the vital work done by our NHS staff – and we should always celebrate their success and must continue to support their efforts."
