A PENSIONER who overtook a vehicle when it was not safe to do so has admitted a careless driving charge at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Kenneth Marr's actions were witnessed by police officers who were travelling behind him in a line of traffic on the A72 road between Blyth Bridge and Peebles near Stevenson Farm around midday on February 22.

They watched as he pulled out into the opposite carriageway and overtook a car as the road approached a dip and he could not be sure of what was approaching.

The court was told Marr of Cambuslang, Glasgow, was pulled over by the police and made no reply to cuation and charge.

His lawyer explained his client, who works for an IT company, had been driving for around 50 years without incident.

Sheriff Valerie Johnston fined him £450 and imposed six penalty points in his licence.
