THE 22-year-old woman who died following an incident in Peebles has been named. 

Officers were called to an address in Cuddyside at around 11.20am on Sunday, August 6 following reports of an assault.

Alexandra Stuart, from Peebles, was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she sadly passed away that evening.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder and appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday, August 7).

Detective Inspector Stevie Bertram of Galashiels CID said: "Our thoughts very much remain with Alex's loved ones, who have respectfully requested privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

"We're not currently looking for anyone else in connection with Alex's death. However, our enquiries continue and we'd urge anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation to get in touch."
