PEEBLES Swimming Pool is set to close for three weeks, while it undergoes a makeover.

The facility will close later this month to allow the poolside windows, which are currently in a state of disrepair, to be replaced.

The improvement work will start on Monday, August 28, but users are being told they can access the other five pools run by sport and leisure group Live Borders.

Posters are also being put up around Tweeddale and customers have been updated with letters and emails.

Peebles Swimming Club has been informed of the plans and regular updates will be provided through the Live Borders website and Facebook page.

The windows which are being replaced are the original ones from when the pool first opened in 1984. But they are now rotten and have been labelled as potentially dangerous.

Ben Lamb, Live Borders facilities manager, told the Peeblesshire News: "We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.

"Unfortunately, it is estimated that this essential works will take three weeks to complete and Peebles Swimming Pool will be closed for the duration.

"Pool users will notice a significant improvement in warmth at the poolside for a more enjoyable experience once the work is completed.

"The work will also improve the building’s energy efficiency through reduced drafts and better performing glazing. Users with a swim membership can still use our other public pools as part of their membership.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we complete this work and look forward to welcoming our customers back to the swimming pool soon.”

Live Borders members who are affected will have their end of September direct debit amended to reflect the reduction in opening hours and lessons.

During the closure, members can use the facilities at Galashiels Swimming Pool, Selkirk Leisure Centre, Kelso Swimming Pool, Teviotdale Leisure Centre (Hawick) and Eyemouth Leisure Centre.

The pool is provisionally scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 18. Further information and updates are available at www.liveborders.org.uk.
