The Borders Under17 Netball squad, comprising nine players from Peebles Netball and one from Gala Tempest, had its first outing of the season in Perth at the weekend and produced a magnificent full set of victories.

A total of 18 district netball squads, from Orkney to Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders took part in the play-offs, organised by Netball Scotland in three seeded pools, to determine the top six teams to go on to their U17 Performance league.

And Borders, led by captain Rianna Sterricks, showcased their skills and fitness from start to finish, with a series of convincing wins over top rated teams to win their pool, demonstrating that intensive training over recent months has paid off.

All ten players took to the court throughout the day, showing depth as well as strength across the players.

Shooting was on form, with a remarkable 100 per cent accuracy on goal from Emma Raeburn in Borders final match of the day against Dumfries and Galloway.

Coach Linda Nicholson told us: “The play-off day is always long and extremely tiring, with five top level matches to get through, but the work we have been doing on fitness in particular certainly showed on court, and we are delighted to come away with a pool win.

"We look forward to moving into the Performance stage of the competition.”
