A FUNDRAISING event is to take place to help keep the wheels turning for Peebles-based charity this weekend.

A concert will be held at the town's Eastgate Theatre at 7.30pm tomorrow night (Saturday), by The Bridge, an organisation which provides support for community groups throughout the Borders.

Entitled ’The Bridge Benefit and all that Jazz’, the concert will be opened by MSP Michelle Ballantyne and MP David Mundell, and will feature the McAllister Quartet, playing jazz standards, plus an auction conducted by Jim Railton from Railton Auctions.

The proceeds are in aid of Tweed Wheels community buses, which operate in Peebles and the surrounding areas. Driven by dedicated volunteers, they benefit the elderly and the housebound, collecting them for a variety of appointments, which can range from hospital and GP visits, to community events.

The money raised will go towards buying two new community buses.

Hazel Clayton from Tweed Wheels said: "There is already some interest in the auction items, The Bridge has been given some splendid items to be auctioned, ranging from some excellent fishing, the finest produce from the Town, spa treatments, membership to the Royal Botanical Gardens, to concert tickets from The Usher Hall, and racing for this season and next at Kelso.

"David Mundell has donated a bottle of House of Commons Whisky, signed by Theresa May and Michelle Ballantyne has also given a bottle of whisky from Holyrood signed by Ruth Davidson. Christine Grahame is also offering the chance for a tour and lunch at Holyrood. So something for everyone."

Tickets cost £15 and can be bought from the Eastgate Box Office or by calling 01721 725777.
