FAMILIES from Innerleithen laced up for this year's St Ronan's Border Games family 5k fun run.

The annual event kicked off at 2pm on Saturday, September 16, with a record entry of 50 runners taking to the Tweed Valley Railway path.

Aaron Glendinning won with a time of 20:33, swiftly followed by Billy Birksm, 20:37) and Ally Birks, 20:49. First adult Sarah Birks completed the route in 26:07.

Cash prizes were awarded for the winners, along with certificates for all participants. All funds raised from the sponsored event will go towards the organisation of the 2018 games week.

Games Chairman Alan Patterson said: "We were delighted with the record entry of 50 runners in our annual Family 5K.

"The route up and down the Tweed Valley Railway Pathway is ideal for our event and it was great to see a large crowd out to support the runners.

"We have already collected £300 in sponsorship and anyone else with sponsor money is asked to hand this in to Mr Belleville at St. Ronan's School."

Alan was announced as Chairman of Games Week in July, after Keith Belleville stepped down from the role. Alan previously served in the role as chairman from 2008 to 2012, and has been Vice Chairman for the last four years. He also served as the town's Standard Bearer in 1995.
