PEEBLES residents have been urged to report crimes to the police, rather than posting details of what has happened on social media.
At the latest community council meeting in the town's Burgh Hall on Thursday, September 14, PC Diane Sorrell said: "I'm aware that many people across the area use social media, and post in community groups if there has been a crime in Peebles or the surrounding area.
"However, unless residents come to Peebles Police Station or pick up the phone to report the crimes, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do.
"I cannot stress how important it is for locals to contact us and make us aware of what has happened.
"Please contact the police to report a crime, don't just put it on social media."
