THE A72 is expected to remain closed during rush hour while police continue their investigations into a road traffic collision.
At 11am this morning a 50-year-old woman was knocked down by a dark blue Mercedes A150 car, between Clovenfords and the Nest roundabout.
She has since been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infermary with serious injuries.
And police are now advising drivers to find alternative routes.
Inspector Calum Welsh said: "We are still trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately.
"Motorists are asked to avoid this area, where possible, as officers remain in attendance at the scene."
Those with information can contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 1087 of the 16th October.
