THREE Borders War Memorials have scooped national awards.

The monuments in Galashiels, Jedburgh and Traquair were all awarded with certificates at this year’s Legion Scotland’s Best Kept War Memorial ceremony.

Galashiels took the Memorial without Gardens category, Jedburgh won the Small Community with Gardens Award and Traquair was granted the Satellite Memorial without Gardens accolade.

The judging took place between May and August, with a total of 108 memorials being submitted by branches across the country.

And the winners were welcomed to Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory in Edinburgh at the end of last month by Legion Scotland’s national vice chairman Martyn Hawthorn for the presentation.

He said: “The commitment of all involved must be commended, not just the winners but all who gave their time, effort and skill to ensure that all memorials entered are a fitting place to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
