THE region's movers and shakers have yet again dug deep to help a local cause.

The weekly MacFarlane Movers over 60s class regularly raises money for nearby charities and projects.

And last week the class handed over its latest £200 cheque to Peebles High additional needs teacher Alan Stuart.

Jean Westwater from MacFarlane Movers told us: "A small charge for tea and coffee is collected each week and when £200 is reached the Movers make a donation to local worthy cause.

"Mr Stuart explained to the class that some pupils can experience difficulty at times during the school day and for a number of reasons need a place where they can have peace and quiet for a while.

"The school has, so far, completed three of these pleasant, outdoor spaces which have seating and are covered and the money provided by the class will enable the school to complete a fourth area near the science block."

The MacFarlane Movers class has so far raised £11,600 for local organisations.

They meet every Wednesday at 10:15am in the MacFarlane Hall - old and new members are always made welcome.
