LOVED ones from across the region can be remembered this Christmas with a special festive light at Borders General Hospital.

The Tree of Light, which was lit for the very first time last year, will return to the hospital grounds again next month.

Each light on the festive fir is a dedication made in honour of a loved one who has passed away or of an event, such as a marriage or a birth.

Last year close to 200 lights were twinkling each yuletide night - helping raise more than £1500 for hospital good causes.

A spokeswoman for NHS Borders told us: "Christmas is a time of celebration but also a time of reflection.

"We are inviting the people of the Scottish Borders to dedicate a light on the tree of light either to honour those treasured people who have helped to light up their life or to mark a joyful event such as a wedding or a birth.

"Dedications can be made to anyone regardless of whether you, or they, have had a connection with NHS Borders services.

"Last year we had a fantastic response with lights dedicated to celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and even honouring beloved pets.

"It is a simple yet moving way of remembering those you love or have loved, and seeing the tree in situ we hope will also bring joy to the people visiting the BGH this festive season."

In return for dedicating a light on the tree, a donation to the NHS Borders’ charity, The Difference, is requested.

Every donation makes the difference to patient care in the Borders by supporting projects and initiatives across the region that enhance services or improve patient environments.

Everyone who dedicates a light will receive a special e-card and a list of dedications will appear on the NHS Borders website.

A brief lighting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 7pm outside the Chaplaincy Centre at Borders General Hospital.

Lights can be dedicated from now until Christmas as the tree will shine into the New Year.
