BROWNIES from across Tweeddale gathered at the Tontine Hotel on Sunday, for a Christmas-themed afternoon tea.

A total of 85 from the 1st and 4th Peebles group joined their counterparts from Cardrona for the festive gathering.

And the youngsters enjoyed a selection of tasty treats during the afternoon.

Margot Swanston, the district commissioner, said: “It is fantastic that the Tontine allowed us to take over their dining room on a Sunday afternoon and it shows the community spirit that we have in this town.

“All the management and staff gave us an afternoon tea to remember and have given our Brownies an insight into what an afternoon tea involves. We cannot thank them enough.

“We started the afternoon with a mocktail served in small flutes and then had a variety of sandwiches followed by scones. Then the cakes were served, the highlight for the Brownies, all washed down with cups of tea. The Brownies, their leaders and invited guests had a fantastic afternoon and Christmas music filtered through the room all day.

“The Brownies did themselves proud all dressed in their uniforms with their homemade Christmas hats.

“The leaders also had a lovely time as it’s a change for them to sit down and relax and let somebody else take charge of their girls. Hopefully lots of happy memories have been made.”
