HOSPITAL caterers provided the final ingredient for this year's Tree of Light at Borders General Hospital - electricity.

The NHS Borders Catering Team, who won the Chairman’s Award at NHS Borders 2017 Celebrating Excellence Awards, were given the honour of switching on the lights last week.

Each light on the festive fir represents a dedication made to a loved one or event.

After heavy rain at last year’s event, the chilly but dry weather this year was welcomed by a gathering of staff, patients and well-wishers.

NHS Borders chairman John Raine said: "The many dedications on the tree represent the many emotions felt throughout the festive season - some joyous and celebratory but also some sad, thoughtful or reflective."

Funds raised by Tree of Light dedications go towards will initiatives and projects to help enhance patient care across NHS Borders.

Following the switch-on NHS Borders chief executive Jane Davidson provided a vote of thanks.

The ceremony closed with songs from the newly-formed NHS Borders Health in Harmony Staff Choir.
