BAD weather took its toll on a meeting to discuss the future of West Linton’s Village Centre earlier this week.

Monday night’s conditions meant the Scottish Borders Council officers who were due to attend couldn’t make the session, which was chaired by Graham Tulloch, of West Linton Community Council.

In their absence, Mr Tulloch gave a brief outline of the building’s history and explained that an SBC property review meant the authority wanted to off-load it.

Options to keep the venue open to the community were also discussed, including the formation of a body to  run it.

There was standing room only as locals packed the meeting.

Council officers will be invited to a re-scheduled meeting at the Village Centre on Monday, January 29.

Mr Tulloch told the Peeblesshire News: “It was a good, positive meeting held in good order with a lot of searching questions, not all of which we were able to answer.

“So we will be passing those to SBC and, so long as the weather is okay, we will get the answers on January 29.

“There is a feeling that the community should take over the building.

“It is working out the mechanics of that for the benefit of the community without it failing or becoming a burden.”
