ESSENTIAL resurfacing works are set to take place by Borders General Hospital in Melrose this weekend.

The works will take place overnight on the A6091, between the B6374 Melrose Junction and Melrose Roundabout, from 8.30pm until 6.30am from Saturday (March 24) Sunday morning (March 25).

Road bosses say the £100,000 works will ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the carriageway at this location – benefitting over 11,000 vehicles which use the route each day - and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in future.

The works were due to take place last week but had to be postponed due to poor weather conditions on site.

During the closure, a signed diversion route will be in operation.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto the B6360 followed by the B6374 Waverley Road.

Traffic will continue eastbound before being diverted down one-way Buccleuch Street, followed by Abbey Street and back onto the B6374 High Road where they will re-join A6091.

Westbound traffic will be diverted along same route in reverse.

Any traffic wishing to access Borders General Hospital from the east will be diverted onto B6394 Abbotsford Road followed by Chiefswood Road.

Traffic wishing to access the hospital from the west will be diverted via B6394 High Cross Avenue and Chiefswood Rd.

The work has been planned in consultation with Scottish Borders Council, Borders General Hospital, Ambulance Service.
