A PEEBLES bakery is in the running to claim a top prize at a national awards ceremony.

WTS Forsyth & Sons, in the Eastgate, impressed judges earlier this year at an event in Dunfermline.

And due to that success, the business has been put on the shortlist for a gong at the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards – which will be held next month in Glasgow.

Norman Forsyth said: “We are delighted to have made it to the shortlist of the Scottish Baker of the Year competition this year.

“It’s great to know that the professional judges liked our products as much as the customers who voted for us do. We can’t wait to hear the final results in May.”

On March 28 bakers from around the country took their produce to be judged in Dunfermline.

The tasty treats were scored on appearance, freshness and taste by a panel of 50 industry experts led by head judge Robert Ross.

The examiners then whittled the entries down into the ‘best of the best’ – which included the Peebles store.

Now staff from Forsyth & Sons will be invited to the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow for a gala dinner on Saturday, May 5, where they will discover if they have won a national award.

Awards on the night will include the naming of the best morning roll, best scone, best individual cake, best savoury, best biscuit, best bread and best celebration cake.

The best Bakery Café, Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker, Wholesale Baker and the overall Scottish Baker of Year 2018 will also be crowed.
