SPORT and arts lovers in the Scottish Borders are being encouraged to attend the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

Scotland will welcome 52 competing nations, and an estimated 8,000 athletes and officials to Glasgow for 11 days of elite competition from August 2 to 12.

It is the first time in history that existing European Championships in aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon have been brought together into one major event, with co-host city Berlin welcoming the athletics.

Scotland’s thriving cultural scene will also be show-cased as part of Festival 18.

As part of the festival, arts organisation Fèis Phàislig will design and deliver a ‘ceilidh trail’ music performance project with a range of concerts, ceilidhs, pop-up street performances and outreach programmes.

At least 50 Community Sports Hubs will benefit from a Glasgow 2018 Legacy Fund and a network of 181 community sport hubs across the country will be putting on new activities and opening up more opportunities for local people to get active and enjoy sport.
