A NUMBER of events are being held in Peebles to mark Christian Aid Week.

The annual fundraising drive to help those who live in disaster prone areas will kick off on Sunday.

The opening service takes place at 6pm in the Leckie Memorial Church.

On Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30pm-9.30pm the inaugural community knit-a-thon will be held. A group will meet at 38 Edderston Road and work to create a blanket which will then be donated to a suitable charity.

Drinks and snacks will be provided and the charity is asking for a donation of £3 for the first square knitted, and £1 for subsequent squares.

On Wednesday, the Leckie Memorial Church will host a quiz night from 7.30pm. And market stalls will be set up in the Eastgate car park on Thursday from 10am-4pm.

Volunteers will also be packing bags for the cause at Sainsbury’s on Thursday and at Tesco next Saturday from 10am-4pm; while there will also be a plant sale that same Saturday at the Leckie Memorial Church, 10am-noon.

From Monday to Friday coffee mornings will be held from 10am-noon at the Leckie Memorial Church, as well as book stalls.
