LAST week's Junior Rideout kicked off a wave of events in West Linton for the village's annual Whipman week.

Today (Friday, June 1, 2018), the Best Dressed House or Shop Front will be judged this afternoon.

Then tonight, floats will gather on the Lower Green from 6pm for judging at 6.30pm, followed by the Installation Ceremony at 7pm prompt in the Marquee.

The dancing of the Whipman Reel and the Procession round the village will follow at around 8pm.

Tomorrow (Saturday, June 2), the Whipman Rideout leaves Howieson Hall Farm at 10am returning to the village around 3.30pm/4pm.

The Children’s Fancy Dress is at 10.30am on the Lower Green (Marquee if its wet) with the Fun Afternoon starting at 1pm on the Lower Green.

Sunday, June 3

  • 10.30am: Family Cycle Ride leaving from the Health Centre
  • 10.45am: Procession to St Andrew’s Church for the Whipman Service at 11.15am
  • 12.30pm: Adult Five a Side Football Tournament at New Moor Road - refreshments/snacks
  • 1pm: Dog show on the Lower Green and teas in the Marquee throughout the afternoon

Monday, June 4

  • 5.30pm - 6.30pm: Kids Football (P1 - P4)
  • 5.30pm - 6.30pm: Cycle and Scooter events (P5 – S1 to age 14)
  • 6.30pm: Junior Football (P5 – age 15)

You can register your name from 5.30

  • 6.30pm: Junior Netball (P5 – age 14) at Tennis Courts
  • 6.30pm: Cycle and Scooter events (up to Nursery and P1 – P4)
  • 7.30pm: Men’s and Women’s Bike Event
  • 8.00pm: Ladies Netball at Tennis Courts

A local Caterer will be on the Green with Wood Fired Pizzas

Tuesday, June 5

  • 9.30am:  Tea and Tots Fun Morning in the Marquee
  • 6pm-7.15pm: Junior Disco in the Marquee. Children not yet at School P3 and 7.30 - 9pm P4 - P7.

Wednesday, June 6

  • 6.30pm: Cross Country Events
  • 7.00pm: Bogie Races
  • 7.30pm: Wheelbarrow Races
  • 8.00pm: Pillow Fight

Local caterers will be on the green with spotted pig hog roasts, venison burgers and also the chip van. 

Thursday, June 7

  • 3.45pm: Children’s Comedy show in the Marquee
  • 6pm: Junior Rugby (P1 - P7)
  • 7pm: Secondary Rugby (S1 - S6)

Doors open 7pm for Comedy show with a 7.30pm start (Marquee)

Saturday, June 9

  • 10am: 7-a-side Hockey followed by Adults v. Kids
  • 1pm: Procession to War Memorial for the laying of the wreath and the opening of Sports Day

Sports events throughout the afternoon...

  • 1.30pm: Whipman Second Hand Book Sale in the Marquee and teas in the Marquee throughout the afternoon
  • 6pm: Whipman Market - stalls, local catering - Baddinsgill lamb burgers, Shaz ice creams and more 
  • 7pm: Tug o’war 
  • 8.15pm:  Presentation of Trophies followed by the Grand Raffle
