FOR many years the Beltane Festival produced a badge given to all primary school children each year, with a unique design for every Queen.

This stopped seven years ago due to increasing production costs.

This year, however, the badges are back – thanks to the sponsorship of Holland and Sherry.

The badges were given out this week to all primary school children in Peebles.

The week-long 2018 Peebles Beltane Festival started on Sunday, June 17, and will draw to a close on Sunday, June 24.

On Wednesday, June 20, the installation of this year's Cornet will take place on the Parish Church Steps at 6.15pm, followed by the Neidpath Ceremony at Neidpath Castle at 7.15pm.

The fording of the Tweed at Hay Lodge Park will follow at around 8.30pm, then the Horse Races on Peebles Golf Course at 9pm, before being rounded off with the Cornets Reel on the High Street at 10.15pm.

On Saturday, June 23, also known as Red Letter Day, the Beltane Saturday Morning Ride will kick off at 8.30am, with the Children's Procession from Halyrude School at 9.15am, swiftly followed by the Proclamation of the Beltane Fair at Mercat Cross at 9.20am.

The Crowning Ceremony of the Beltane Queen takes place shortly after that at 10am on the Parish Church Steps, followed by the Grand Parade of decorated floats and bands along the High Street at 11.45am.

The service of remembrance will round off the afternoon at the War Memorial at 1.15pm.

Later on Saturday evening, the Bands Beat Retreat on the High Street will take place at 7pm.
