PEEBLES is gearing up for the return of the town’s highly-anticipated annual agricultural show.

Held on Saturday, August 11, at Nether Horsburgh Farm by the A72 in Cardrona, the event has one of the largest entries of livestock in Scotland, with plenty on offer for the whole family to enjoy.

During the day, visitors will be able watch a mix of cookery demonstrations, tuck in to tasty treats from an array of stalls in the food tent, check out the competition entries, see the dog show, and for the youngsters, have the chance to saddle up for a pony ride.

President of the Peebles Show, Bill Brown told us: “We have really good entries in all the classes of livestock, with almost record entries of horses. The new road into the car parking field will help with logistics especially if its a wet day, we are planning to bring all the horse lorries in that gate.

“This year for the first time, we will have miniature donkeys and valley black-nosed sheep at the show, these new additions will complement our very good donkey entries.

“There is also a record number of entries of shepherds’ sticks.

“Our entertainment includes a heavy horse turnout, vintage tractors and the young farmers doing an obstacle course. Also, we are delighted to have Ricky Hutchison, the British international sheep dog trial champion doing some sheep dog demonstrations.

“His dog Jock, who won, is the son of the dog who came second place in the same competition called Sweep.

“This is the first time this has happened, a father and son finishing in first and second place.”

Among the other attractions on offer will be a craft tent, full of varied stalls, butchery demonstrations provided by Forsyths of Peebles, and an education tent.

Bill added: “We have around 70 trade stands, including tractors, cars, plants, tools, charity stands and a funfair.

“This year’s show promises to be a great day out for all the family.

“I’m also pleased to announce MKM Building Supplies Galashiels as our main sponsor for this year’s show, we are very grateful to them and all our other sponsors for their support.

Travel options to get to the show couldn’t be easier, with free parking for motorists, and a free bus to the show from Peebles and Innerleithen.

Entry for adults is £12, concessions £8, family (two adults and three children) £35, and entry for under fives is free.
