DRINK DRIVING AN accounts manager from Peebles who drove home after participating in the St Ronan's Games Week celebrations in Innerleithen has been banned from the road for 14 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

David Brunton was three and a half times the legal alcohol limit after being involved in an accident on the A72 road during the early hours of July 22.

The 28-year-old of Whitehaugh Park, had a breath/alcohol count of 77 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said: "Not long after leaving Innerleithen he lost control of the car on a bend and crashed into a wall.

"The accused admitted he had consumed four pints of lager and it was clear that he was intoxicated."

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said: "He has been straight forward about it.

"He had been socialisiing in Innerleithen and it was his intention to stay there overnight. He regrets that he changed his mind and decided to drive home."

Mr Patrick said it had been a costly episode as the car was written off.

In addition to the 14-months ban, Brunton was fined £300.
