THIS dramatic picture shows Borders firefighters tackling a car fire today (Monday, February 1).

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was called to Dunsdale Road, Selkirk, at 1.19pm.

Eyewitness James Haining, 28, told the Border Telegraph: "There was a lot of black smoke filling the road.”

Mr Haining, a senior account manager at a public relations firm, added: "Not much has happened in lockdown, so seeing this [the fire] was unexpected.

"It was quite an expensive-looking car.

"We just hope nobody got hurt."

The fire service confirmed there were no reported casualties.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We were alerted at 1.19pm on Monday, February 1 to reports of a car on fire at Dunsdale Road, Selkirk, Scottish Borders.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and left after ensuring the area was made safe.

“There were no reported casualties.”
