DURING the build up to Christmas, Biggar Ramblers had a short winter hill walk from the A701 near Skirling across open country then a straight ascent to the trig point summit on the Broughton Heights ridge.

The winter weather didn’t disappoint - it was wild up there and very windy. Members could hardly stand.

With the wind on our backs we followed the ridge heading east gradually descending and gradually returning to normality. I really enjoyed it but I think we were all glad it was only four miles! A pair of Snow Buntings on the ridge seemed happy in their wintery element.
