STAFF and customers at the Fleming Arms in Biggar have raised almost £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, after deciding to take to the saddle.

Around 30 people took turns to ride for 30 minutes over 12 hours on two static bikes outside the pub and between them managed to bike a whopping 700 miles.

In total the group raised £2,760 and pub landlords Ian and Fiona Gibson said they want to do it all again next year.

Ian said: "It was a novel way to raise money for Macmillan and the local community really got involved.

"Thank you to everyone who supported the virtual static cycle especially the Fleming Arms cyclists.

"This is the second year of the event and we hope to do it all again next year."

Angela McCormack, area fundraising manager for Macmillan added: "I would like to thank Ian and Fiona for kindly organising the event in aid of Macmillan and to all the cyclists who took part helping to raise this tremendous amount.

"The money raised will be used to help local people affected by cancer in the region.

"Macmillan Cancer Support is here to support people affected by cancer, every step of the way. The charity is here to ensure that people don’t have to go through it alone."
