A WORLD-RENOWNED violinist is set to play Biggar later this month.

Alina Ibragimova will perform her music at the Municipal Hall on Friday, December 16.

Born in Russia, Ibragimova studied at the Moscow Knessin School before moving to the UK where she studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal College of Music.

Now an internationally renowned violinist, she lives in London, and earned an MBE in this year’s Honours, an award rarely given to musicians.

Ibragimova was praised for her two solo recitals at the Proms in 2015, with critics calling her a “sensation” and praising her “beautiful tone”.

Her programme for the Biggar show includes her performance of Bach’s great E major Partita, BWV 1006, as well as Sonatas for solo violin by Bach and Ysaye.

Tickets will cost £12, and will be available at the door, with free admission for students and accompanied children.

Before the concert, from 7pm, the Friends of Biggar Music Club Trust are inviting everyone to a pre-Christmas event with drinks and mince pies – at a cost of £5 per person.
