A BREAK in the rain blessed Biggar Show organisers during the champion judging.

In a complete change from 2013’s sensational sunshine, heavy rainfall and low clouds seemed to threaten the day’s main event .

Champion of Champions show judge Tom Wight, who has managed 1,100 acres at Culterhaugh Farm for 46 years had a tough job deciding between the six champions.

Winner of the overall Show Champion was Dairy champion Kendal Mona, a Holstein Friesian bred cow, handled by Abbie Baillie for her father William Baillie of Hillhead Farm, Covington.

Miss Baillie’s young friends outside the main ring gasped as the result was announced and she could not stop beaming with pleasure.

Mr Wight said: “There’s an excellent line-up of champions here today, the young bull has a lot of potential and the Show Pony has a good young rider, but the champion here today is the Holstein cow.” Show vice-president Callum Wight said: “Despite the weather the turn out is very good and the top car park is full. “Years ago we learned that you need plenty of canvas, so people can duck in out of the rain.” In addition to all the animals being exhibited visitors could watch a Highland dancing competition, see birds of prey, stunt cycling and crazy obstacle races with competitors running over a commando style course of stacked straw bales and water features.
